GISH-O-WEEN!

Item 53: TEAM GRID ITEM. A tarot deck featuring your teammates all as the cards.

The highlight of my 2020 has been GISH, the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt (www.gish.com). Over the past weekend I participated my 4th hunt this year. The hunt is orchestrated by Misha Collins from the show "Supernatural" and he really knows how to show you a good time. You get a list of crazy, creative and kind challenges. You work with your team of 9-15 people and submit photographs or videos as proof.

For the Halloween Haunt/Haunt, my sister and I were co-captains of team NoPupOuttaYou. The list dropped at 7pm Friday night. We watched opening ceremonies together in our Halloween costumes and then we dove in headfirst to the list of crazy challenges.

We even got Mimi in on the action. She shocked us all by wearing that belly dancer costume and danced with her midriff bare! She even let us take video of it. She was beautiful and I was so proud of her "no shame" attitude. We could have used it the video for item number 10, Embrace your fears. Literally. Instead my sister bravely embraced a clown.

I was really proud of her for hugging the clown. I'm terrified of fish and I know there is no way in hell I could bring myself to hug a fish.

Here are some of the items I helped complete. The tarot cards were the only item I completed on my own. I enjoyed being a extra brain and set of hands. I spent the weekend running around gathering items, painting signs, setting up and editing photos and videos. It was a workout to say the least!!!

Item 13: A couple (or more) ne'er-do-good ghosts or zombies wearing t-shirts with positive life-affirming messages on them.

Item 17: The Texas Chainsaw Massage Parlor.

Item 19: (UP TO 30 SECONDS) "Do you want to form a coven?" Show us the trailer from the Halloween-themed sequel to Frozen.

Item 20: A classic mask-wearing movie monster holding a sign that says "Wear a Mask!"

Item 27: (SIDE-BY-SIDE) Items never die: Resurrect an old Item from the dead. Re-create an old Item from a previous GISH and show this zombie-item side by side with your current re-creation. In the new version, everyone in it must be zombified, of course.

Item 29: Mummy and Me fashion show! A mummy with their little one, both dressed in the latest high-fashion wrappings.

Item 32: Three days after trick or treating, you know what you’re left with: "Halloween dandruff," aka candy wrappers. But there’s no reason that they can’t live on... Create a beautiful, stunning, magnificent hat or headpiece out of leftover Halloween candy wrappers and model it by your favorite Jack O'Lantern or "gourdalantern" if you’re not near pumpkins.

Item 54: If you’re in a country or area where COVID is no longer restricting movement, go reverse trick or treating at the animal shelter. Bring packages of toys (or goodies if they allow it) to the animals and make sure you’re wearing a mask and a costume! (If your country is still on lockdown, you may "visit" digitally instead of by making a donation).

Item 63: Everybody knows Stormtroopers love Halloween. Show a Stormtrooper dressed up as what they REALLY wanted to be — a gentle, sweet or heroic costume like a ballerina, a firefighter, a fairy, etc. They should be in their Stormtrooper armor as well as their costume, of course.

Item 67: KIDS MENU. To cut down on sugar-laden kids in my house, I once convinced my kids to turn their Halloween candy into Halloween candy stew (It was pretty gross.) But it turns out that we were onto something. Make a video of your famous recipe for Halloween Candy Soup or Candy. Show an adult eating every bite.

That was so much fun and I am so proud of what we accomplished. The next step is called HARSHing. The participants are sent submissions to judge. The winners make the GISH Hall of Fame or even the coveted coffee table book! We are always looking for people to join our team. Send me a message if you would like more information. We play for fun but would love to be in it to win it. Back in "before times" the winning team got to go on a mystery vacation with Misha Collins. I think I would enjoy a vacation with Misha Collins! I am hoping for one more hunt this year. I am dreaming of a wild Gishmas!!!

Love Life.

Be Art.
