It's been a month since I began my floral design apprenticeship.
I've been busier than a one legged guy in an ass kicking contest.
It's a good kind of busy.
I am vibing so well with my new mentor.
I feel a sense of being in the right place as I build my portfolio as a designer.
That sentence made my heart swell with joy.
I'm doing the thing.
Seems fitting to start out with cakes made of flowers.
These are fun to make.
I have lots of room for improvement.
This was my first arrangement for a funeral. These were for the family that lost two children in a fire. I was honored to arrange this basket in their memory.
Here's a sampling of my first vased arrangements. Some hits. Some misses, I've got a lot to learn but I've got a teacher with over 24 years experience.
This lovely arrangement was left on the recipients porch in the bitter cold. They came home to dead flowers and a broken vase on the porch. The person who delivered it might as well have chucked it on to the porch from their car.
We got a little bit of snow on 2/2. I put these roses we had on the counter out in the snow and watched the snow pile up on the roses.
Flowers hate the cold, just like most people do.
I got to spend a couple days at home on the couch while we got what I hope to be our entire winter at once. I have hope for better days because this snow has made things more difficult than necessary. I made a terrible error after work and walked out into to slushy street in my crocs. That really sucked.
I'm not only doing floral design. I've been given the challenge to freshen up the shop logo, create signage for the new design studio and coworking space. I've made hang tags, uniforms. I'm merchandising. I've been showing off my exceptional customer service and technical skills.
I created this using my Cricut Explorer. I thought the shop needed something for Black History Month. It makes me so proud seeing it prominently displayed in our shop window.
I'm happy with the direction my life is moving.
I really am doing the thing.
Love Life.
Be Art.
Girl, those are ALL hits!!! My Mom saw me reading this post, so I showed her the white dog arrangement (she has a Bichon Frise), and she ***LOVED*** it! My favorite arrangements were the different shades of pink, the beautiful arrangement for the two lost souls, and, of course, the white dog. Don't you dare stop doing this!!! 😍Mandi
