breathe

I just completed my August and September playing card collages for my monthly exchange. I feel bad for not keeping up my end of the bargain because I didn't complete mine within the deadline. I have a stack of unopened mail full of collages. I can open them once I mail these. I am grateful my friends are very understanding. My struggle is not unique, I think most of us are overwhelmed. I am proud that I pushed on and am pleased with what I created.

I sanded the cards and stared at them for a month at least. Then one day my bestie told me about this stuff called Quink ink, so I bought a bottle. I painted the cards with the Quink ink then splashed them with bleach. Such a cool effect. It kind of looked like a stormy sky. Life got crazy and they sat there for a while. Then I got a little break. I decided I wanted to add some metallic texture to it. I hit the cards with bubblewrap that I had painted bronze. After they dried I topped that with some pearly white on the wrap.

I loved it so much I felt myself breathe a HUGE sigh of relief. The block was lifted and I was making pretty again. So I decided I would add the word "breathe" because that is really the theme for August and September. It's been hard to breathe. We need to breathe. It isn't really all that safe to breathe. But we all have to breathe.

My letter stamps were too big and too small. I was so frustrated. Then I saw my dandelion stamp and realized it looks like Covid-19. I had a dried up silver stamp pad so I beat the crap out of the pad and the cards with that stamp. I took out some serious aggression and it felt really good. I then tried adding the word breathe and still wasn't pleased. It needed something.

It needed some happy little trees.

Hooray for happy little trees. I sure will be glad when the happy little trees on the west coast stop burning...

So yeah, happy little trees.

I threw in a little more Covid, because what the hell...

Then for the fun part. The word breathe in white. I can't believe what a pain in the ass it is to get white lettering on black. Paint pens turned silver. Finally I went with embossing powder.

Voila!

And because I'm a little bit extra, I'm calling this a multi mixed media project.

How bout dat?
